How well do you know India?
10 rounds, 100 points
10 rounds, 100 points
Ten rounds, alternating between four-option questions and puzzles. The five questions ask about Hindu cosmology, the symbol at the center of the flag, India's land borders, how a tandoor cooks, and the country's religious makeup. The puzzles are different in kind: a run of five where you decide whether a city is Indian, a run of five where you decide whether a well known person is Indian, two ordering rounds where seven countries are already in the right order by coastline and then by area and you place India among them, and one round where a color on the Indian flag has been replaced and you drag a slider until it looks right.
There is no timer and no daily reset. Nothing is revealed between rounds, so the result screen is the first time you find out how any round went. It shows your score out of a hundred, a verdict, and what each of the ten rounds was worth.
The quiz ends with one of five verdicts. 90 to 100 points: You could give the tour. 75 to 89 points: You've earned a second chai. 60 to 74 points: Good enough for small talk. 45 to 59 points: You've only seen it on a map. 0 to 44 points: India remains a mystery.
The bottom band ends where it does on purpose. A player tapping at random averages about 42 points of 100, nearly all of it partial credit from the two ordering rounds and the color slider, so guessing never earns a verdict that reads as praise. A score of 60 or more means you answered rather than guessed.
India has about 1.42 billion people and passed China as the world's most populous country in 2023. It fits them into roughly 3.3 million square kilometers, about a third of the land area of the United States. Its median age is around 28, which makes it one of the youngest large populations anywhere, and more than half the country is under 30.
It is a federal union of twenty-eight states and eight union territories, and the state lines were drawn largely along language ones. The constitution recognizes twenty-two scheduled languages, Hindi and English are the languages of central government, and an Indian banknote prints its value in seventeen of them. The 2024 general election had about 970 million registered voters, the largest electorate ever polled anywhere.
India as one political unit is much younger than the civilization underneath it. The Indus Valley cities date from around 2600 BCE; the modern republic was constituted in 1950, three years after independence, under what is still the longest constitution of any sovereign country. In 2023 it became the first country to land a craft near the lunar south pole.
Every question's correct answer was checked against a published source before it shipped, and the decoys were checked too, for the opposite reason: a decoy that turns out to be true would give the question two defensible answers.
The coastline and area figures behind the two ordering rounds come from the same dataset the rest of the geography games use, so a country's rank here matches its rank in Order the Country and Match the Country. Scoring and sources work the same way on every country quiz, and are set out in full on the country quizzes page.
Yes, one more, and each one is built the same way with its own questions, its own cities and people, and its own ordering rounds. There is the Germany quiz.
Every round in this quiz, with what it asks and what it offers. No correct answer is marked, and the ordering rounds list their other countries alphabetically rather than in the real order, so nothing here is given away.
Quizebra has six daily geography games, including Name the Flag, Guess the Country and Find the Color, whose slider this quiz borrows. There are six football games built the same way.
Everything is free, nothing needs an account, and the daily games reset at midnight London time.
