Quizebra Chess is a set of four free daily chess games in your own browser. Mate in One and Mate in Two are timed puzzle sets: three puzzles a day each from the Lichess puzzle database, sixty seconds and one try per puzzle, scored on total time. Juicers and Horde are games against the computer from a winning start, scored on how many moves you need to checkmate it. Everyone in the world gets the same positions each day, with a leaderboard for that day. No account, no sign-up, no ads, and unlimited practice once the daily game is done.
Lozza, an open-source chess engine written in JavaScript. It runs on your own device, searches to a fixed depth and never uses a clock, so everyone faces exactly the same opponent making exactly the same replies.
The mate puzzles come from the Lichess puzzle database, which is free and public: positions from real games played on Lichess. Each of the two games holds 500 of them, split into three tiers by Lichess rating, and a day takes one from each tier, so the three always climb. The Juicers and Horde positions were generated by rule and then played out by the engine against itself; only positions the attacker checkmated every time are kept, so every daily position is known to be winnable against this exact opponent. There are 509 Juicers positions and 188 Horde positions.
No, only the idea is shared. In the Horde variant on Lichess, White has 36 pawns and no king against a full army. In Quizebra’s Horde you have ten to sixteen pawns and a king, the computer has a king and one to three pieces and no pawns, ordinary chess rules apply, and you win by checkmate in as few moves as you can. The Horde page has the full rules.
Mate in One if you have five minutes: three puzzles, a minute each at most. Mate in Two if you want to calculate. Juicers if you want a whole game against the computer with a big material edge, Horde if you want the strangest one: nothing but pawns. Playing all four is how you become the Daily ChessWhiz.
At midnight London time. Each game then has a fresh start and a fresh leaderboard, and everyone in the world plays the same one. If you make the day’s top five, your result goes on the leaderboard under a name you type, or an automatic one if you leave it empty.
Quizebra also has six geography games, six football games and four brain games built the same way.
