More about GUESS THE PLAYER

Guess the Player: One Career, Club by Club

Guess the Player is a free daily football game on Quizebra in which you guess the footballer: one player’s career is revealed club by club and you name him. The clubs appear in career order, earliest first, each with its years and the league games and goals from that spell. Your score is the club number you solved it on, and lower is better. There is no timer, and everyone gets the same player each day.

How Do You Play Guess the Player?

Type a name and pick it from the list, or press Next Club to see the next one, which costs you one place. If the player is at a club right now, the button on his second-to-last club reads Current Club instead, and on the last club it reads Reveal Player.

A wrong guess costs you the club you guessed on and the next one as well, which you never see. Guess wrong on the last or second-to-last club and the round ends there with the player revealed.

How Is Your Score Calculated?

Your score is the number of the club you named the player on, and lower is better. A round you never solve scores one more than the number of clubs in that career. The worst possible score therefore changes from day to day with the length of the career, but everyone faces the same player on the same day, so the leaderboard is always fair.

Which Players Come Up?

413 footballers are in the pool, and each one is the answer exactly once before any of them comes round again. Careers run from three clubs to sixteen, and most are between three and six, so some puzzles give you far less to work with than others.

The name list you type into also holds 91 players who are never the answer, so picking from it does not narrow anything down.

What Counts as a Club?

Every spell with league games counts, and a second spell at the same club is shown as its own entry, so a player who left and came back has that club twice in the list. Loan spells count too, and can even come first. Reserve-team games do not count, and a club someone has only just joined can show 0 games. The figures are league games and goals only, so they run lower than the all-competition totals you may know.

Tips for a Better Score

Read the years as well as the club. Every entry carries its dates, so the first club already tells you when the career began and which generation to look in. The games count tells you how big a part of the career that club was: a few games in one season is a stopover, a few hundred is where the career was built.

When two players fit, count the cost. A wrong guess costs two clubs and a skip costs one, so a guess you are more than half sure of is worth taking and a coin flip is not. On the last club there is nothing left to protect: a wrong guess and Reveal Player end the round the same way, so always guess.

When Does the Daily Puzzle Reset?

A new player arrives at midnight London time, with a fresh leaderboard, and everyone in the world gets the same one. Once the daily puzzle is done you can keep playing practice rounds, which are unlimited and never touch the daily leaderboard. Free, no account, no ads.

Each career comes from the career table on that player’s Wikipedia page, league games and goals only. Where StatMuse has season-by-season numbers, they are checked against it.
