Guess the Club: Ten Former Players, One Club

Guess the Club is a free daily football game on Quizebra in which ten former players of one club are revealed one at a time and you guess the football club. They are revealed in order of games played for that club, fewest first, so the opening names barely played there and the players with the most games come last. Your score is the player number you solved it on, and lower is better. There is no timer, and everyone gets the same club each day.

How Do You Play Guess the Club?

Each player is shown with the games they played and goals they scored for that club. Type a club name and pick it from the list, or press Next Player to see the next one, which costs you one place. On the tenth player the button reads Reveal Club instead, and pressing it ends the round.

A wrong guess is dearer: it costs you the player you guessed on and the next one as well, which you never see. Guess wrong on the ninth or tenth and the round ends there, scored 11, with the club revealed.

How Is Your Score Calculated?

Your score is the number of the player you named the club on, from 1 to 10, and lower is better. A round you never solve scores 11. Solving on player 2 beats solving on player 8.

Which Clubs Come Up?

55 clubs are in the pool, and a club needs at least ten different former players in the data to qualify. 42 of them are from England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France, and 13 from Portugal, the Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina and Switzerland.

The number of puzzles varies a lot: Barcelona has 99 and Real Madrid 88, while thirteen clubs have just one, Santos and São Paulo among them. That follows how many of a club’s ex-players are in the data rather than how famous the club is, and the data is built around European squads. There are 1,389 puzzles in all, and the daily schedule runs 3,650 days before it repeats, with the same club never coming up twice within ten days.

Who Counts as a Former Player?

Anyone who played at least one game for the club and has since left. Loan spells count, so a season on loan makes someone a former player of that club. A player who is at the club right now is not used for it, because their games and goals are still changing, but if they had a separate earlier spell there, that spell can still appear. Two past spells at one club show up once, added together, and reserve-team games do not count.

Tips for a Better Score

When two clubs fit, count the cost. A wrong guess costs two players and a skip costs one, so a guess you are more than half sure of is worth taking and a coin flip is not. On the tenth player there is nothing left to protect: a wrong guess and Reveal Club both score 11, so always guess.

Remember what the order means. The list is sorted by games for that club, not by fame, so a famous name early is telling you they barely played there. Ask where a career had a short stop or a loan spell, not where the player made their name.

When Does the Daily Puzzle Reset?

A new club arrives at midnight London time, with a fresh leaderboard, and everyone in the world gets the same one. Once the daily puzzle is done you can keep playing practice rounds, which are unlimited and never touch the daily leaderboard. Free, no account, no ads.

Each player’s clubs, and their games and goals at each one, come from the career table on their Wikipedia page, cross-checked season by season against StatMuse.
