Take the #1 spot
Build the Team is a free daily football lineup game on Quizebra in which you fill a five-player formation one position at a time, picking from four real players the one with the most of a single statistic, such as Premier League goals or Champions League games, without seeing any numbers. Your score is your five picks added together as a percentage of the best five that could have been picked. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day.
The statistic is named in the header from the first round. Each round then offers four players for one position on the pitch, and you pick the one you think has the most of it. Your pick takes its place in the formation by name.
You do not have to fill the formation in order. Tap any empty slot to jump to it, and tap a slot you have already filled to clear it and choose again. Your fifth pick ends the puzzle at once, with no final check, so change whatever you want before it.
Your five picks are added together and divided by the best total available from the candidates you were offered, so 100% means you picked the strongest player in all five rounds. The result screen leads with your team’s raw total, for example 812 Premier League Games; the percentage is what goes on the leaderboard, rounded to a whole number. There is no timer.
Afterwards you see two columns, Your Team and Perfect Team: for every round, your pick and its real number beside the best pick and its number, with both totals above them.
Thirteen statistics are in the pool:
Career-high market value is the single most used, in 120 of the 580 puzzles. There are five formations, and 172 of the 580 include a goalkeeper, always in a games or market-value puzzle: a goalkeeper is never offered in a goals puzzle.
League and Champions League goals and games come from StatMuse, and market values from Transfermarkt.
Every round is drawn in tiers: one player from the top fifth of the pool for that statistic and position, two from the middle, and one from the bottom half. A round where two players share the top value is thrown away, so each round has exactly one right answer.
There are 580 puzzles, 2,900 rounds and 463 different players. No player is used in more than 60 of the 580, which stops the same few names filling every formation. A player still playing in the competition a puzzle scores is not offered in it, which keeps the figures from moving while the puzzle is live. Champions League rounds go further and use only players who have left the top five leagues.
Look for the outsider first. Every round contains one player drawn from the bottom half of the pool, so one of the four does not belong, and ruling him out leaves a choice between three.
Do not expect the obscure name to be the answer. Games-played rounds reward a long career at a big club, so the winner is usually the famous name rather than the one you half recognize.
No, though it borrows the picking. There is no budget, no squad to manage and no real matches to wait for: every number is already in the past. One statistic decides all five rounds, you never see the numbers while you pick, and your team is measured against the best five that could have come from the same twenty candidates rather than against anyone else’s team. A puzzle takes a couple of minutes.
A new puzzle arrives at midnight London time, with a fresh leaderboard, and everyone in the world gets the same one. Once the daily puzzle is done you can keep building teams in practice rounds, which are unlimited and never touch the daily leaderboard. Free, no account, no ads.
